Here’s something I’ve discovered over the course of the self portrait experiment, thus far: mirrors lie.\u00c2\u00a0 Yep, you heard me.\u00c2\u00a0 Conventional wisdom has it that the mirror doesn’t lie, but that’s, well, a lie.\u00c2\u00a0 Because in the mirror, there’s still some fluidity.\u00c2\u00a0 Your eye slips over certain things.\u00c2\u00a0 You lean forward (to shave, for instance), and you generally don’t appear as you would appear, say, posing for a photograph.<\/p>\n

The lens, however, does not lie.<\/p>\n

Therefore, I now know I’m more overweight than I thought I was, and I’m working on that in small ways right now.\u00c2\u00a0 There have been quite a few pictures with which I was not happy because of the way the lens captured some part of me that never seemed to be so apparent in the mirror.\u00c2\u00a0 The lens freezes a moment, and there it is.<\/p>\n

Throughout the course of these 365 days, hopefully, you’ll see improvements in my physicality.<\/p>\n

In the meantime, in today’s picture I simply hide behind my jacket.\u00c2\u00a0 After all, it is getting rather brisk out there.<\/p>\n
