Obvious Metaphor

Sometimes, it’s not merely apparent, but practically obvious, when it comes to figuring out what you need and/or what you want.

Last night I dreamt I was taking pictures in a city called Venice, but not in any part of Venice I’ve ever seen in pictures before, with an old friend as pseudo-guide.  There were canals, and underground passages, and elevators, and in some places huge crowds of people.  In other places, there was a person in a mask.  And a shoe store, I believe, with white feather shoes.  It was a strange dream in an imaginary Venice.  Someone want to explain the metaphoric meaning of that?
