A Piano in the Woods

According to this CNN article, police found a piano in the woods where previously no such instrument existed.  Someone had set a bench there to play and, most surprisingly of all, it was in tune.

How it got there (it took several men to move) and where it came from remain a mystery.  Perhaps it was stolen.

It’s like something from one of my stories.
However, it was obviously there for a reason.  A performance.  A once-in-a-lifetime event, the keys tickled by hands unlike any modern hand, the music heard by modern ears that have never before heard such wonders.  You could count the audience by tens, rather than hundreds or arena-level thousands.

This performance will never appear on YouTube.  It was not recorded in any way.  It was not simulcast, will not be broadcast, will never be re-played.  On the edge of sleep, between waking and sleep, perchance you might catch a snippet of the songs, the briefest hint of what had been played, the slightest suggestion of the fantastic concert.

No one has yet discovered the violin which accompanied the piano.
